North Carolina Central University (NCCU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Bands. NCCU, a top-ranking regional university in the South and a historically black university, is in Durham, North Carolina, and adjacent to the Research Triangle Park. Identified as a Community Engaged Institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of teaching, the NCCU community lives by the institution's motto of "Truth and Service."

The NCCU Sound Machine is a marching band of approximately 150 students that performs at all home football games and traditionally travels to three to six out-of-town games during the football season. The Sound Machine is a central feature of NCCU, with many performances, outside of football games, with audiences of over 80,000. The ensemble is often featured as front-page news for local and out-of-town newspapers and magazines. The Sound Machine has also been featured on television programs viewed by missions worldwide.
