Dean of the Mitchell College of Business

The University of South Alabama invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Mitchell College of Business. Founded in 1963, USA is home to more than 14,000 students and 6,000 employees with an operating budget of over $1 billion. A comprehensive university with a Carnegie classification of “Doctoral Universities: High Research Activity,” USA offers more than 50 undergraduate degree programs as well as graduate study in 53 master’s and 14 doctoral programs across ten colleges and schools, including one of Alabama's two state-supported medical schools. The Mitchell College of Business is supported by engaged alumni and friends whose support positively impacts the college's education, research, and service missions. This search offers a unique opportunity to spearhead the growth of a vibrant and contemporary business education enterprise in one of the nation’s most desirable locations. The successful candidate will lead a well-established AACSB-accredited college with high-demand programs that support the dynamic economic climate of the Gulf Coast.

The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the Mitchell College of Business and reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost. The Dean will be responsible for establishing a strategic vision for the College and will be charged with ensuring the promotion and success of the College’s students, programs, research, and philanthropic goals.

The University is seeking candidates who can demonstrate visionary leadership, have a strong record of successful development efforts, and who show a strong commitment to the success of students and faculty. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding record of scholarly research, extensive experience in academic administration at the undergraduate and graduate levels, demonstrated effectiveness in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and an understanding of the demands of preparing students to live and work in a global society. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong record of achievement in building and sustaining innovative public- and private-sector partnerships including those with business and industry, governmental entities, two-year and four-year institutions, and others who will be able to work with an engaged Board of Trustees to further the College’s mission. The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in a discipline represented in the College and a tenurable academic record, as well as meaningful higher education administrative experience preferably in AACSB-accredited colleges/programs. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated evidence of effective leadership in academic program administration.
