Dean - School of Health Professions

Manhattan College seeks an experienced, innovative, and collaborative leader with the vision, experience, and skills to lead and build on our current faculty and offerings and take our School of Health Professions to new levels of academic programming and excellence.  The Manhattan College School of Health Professions offers undergraduate programs in physical education, allied health (changing to health sciences), exercise science, nuclear medicine technology, radiation therapy technology, and public health, as well as graduate programs in marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, and school counseling and a new masters in health care informatics.  The school also has articulation agreements in place allowing graduates to move into a wide variety of graduate programs at several other institutions.  We seek a new dean that can lead the school in building on these programs, adding nursing and a variety of other programs.

Reporting to the provost, the dean provides leadership and support for strategic planning and policy formation, faculty development, faculty personnel matters as they relate to hiring, promotion and tenure, curriculum development strategies to enhance teaching and learning, budget, student development, academic advising, accreditation, and assessment.  Responsible for building the School of Health Professions’ reputation, the dean is expected to provide a broad vision for the health professions within the context of the College’s tradition, which places special emphasis on values-based education and on learning that engages and encourages students to cross traditional boundaries, exploring connections between the liberal arts and sciences, engineering, education, and business.  The successful candidate will have a Ph.D or equivalent academic credential, an outstanding record of accomplishment in teaching, research, and professional service, and having achieved the rank of full professor is preferred. In addition, he/she will have had significant academic leadership experience with a minimum of at least five years as a department chair ten years is preferred.  The successful applicant must represent the school’s academic programs effectively to the public, media, alumni/ae, donors, regulators, accreditors, and the Manhattan College Board of Trustees, fundraise for the School of Health Professions through grants and individual donations. The ideal candidate will also develop and foster relationships with hospital systems for clinical placements; be actively involved in professional organizations and/or hold leadership roles in professional organizations.

  •  An understanding of and appreciation for the distinctive qualities of Manhattan College, particularly its Lasallian heritage, as well as contemporary issues in higher education, including the implications of artificial intelligence in the work and education of health professionals

  • An administrator who has shown evidence of a strong commitment to enhancing institutional diversity
  • A “hands-on” person who possesses initiative and energy to work with colleagues in addressing school and college issues
  • A knowledgeable motivator and supporter of research, creative activity, and programs within and across academic disciplines
  • An individual who has an understanding of the importance of shared governance, collaboration, delegation, and who can model and nurture a highly effective professional environment
  • An articulate and passionate advocate on behalf of the school’s needs and aspirations, both on and off campus
  • A highly accomplished administrator with successful command of budget, management, regulatory, accreditation, and personnel  issues
  • A loyal team member who can work effectively with chairs, Board of Advisors, other deans, and the Office of the Provost to promote school initiatives
  • An open, caring, and reflective individual who possesses a  warm sense of humor
