The Position of Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs: Serving as the Chief Academic Officer, the Provost provides dynamic academic and strategic leadership for the university with broad vision, a perpetual fresh perspective, and balanced judgment and creativity. The Provost leads more than 3,000 faculty and staff in undergraduate, graduate, extended education, research and public partnerships programs. The Provost oversees, coordinates and promotes the excellence and integrity of academic programming, scholarly work and creative activity where student success involving high quality student learning, persistence and degree completion are top priorities. As a member of the President's Cabinet, the Provost develops and implements strategic goals and initiatives and coordinates regional, national and international activities to support the mission and priorities of the university; additional areas of oversight include the financial and capital planning of the division, regulatory compliance, accreditation and institutional equity. The Provost guides the division through bold leadership of an engaged and collaborative team, positive working relationships across university divisions and the recruitment, development and retention of a diverse and forward-thinking faculty and staff. The Provost is a champion of diversity and individual uniqueness, recognizing the strength these factors bring to the university community and learning environment.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a distinguished record in teaching and scholarship with an earned doctorate from an accredited institution. Must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Full Professor to an academic department at CSUN. Must have substantial experience and demonstrated leadership in higher education academic administration. Must have demonstrated, through previous professional achievements, the ability to plan and implement innovative instructional and research programs; to work effectively with a collaborative and consultative style that appreciates shared governance and collective bargaining; and the ability to anticipate and foster continuous improvement in academic programs that recognizes the complexity and emerging opportunities in a comprehensive university environment. Evidence of proficiency in and proponent of data-based decision-making; skill in fiscal planning and resource management; excellent communication skills and a confident and comfortable public presence. Must demonstrate a track record of and experience in supporting diversity, inclusivity and equity with diverse faculty, staff and student populations.
