THE SEARCH

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) seeks an inspiring, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as its next Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA). Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor and serving on the Chancellor’s cabinet, the VCSA will be a key member of the Executive Vice Chancellor’s leadership team and will serve on the Deans’ Council. The VCSA will join Nebraska at a time of tremendous opportunity and transformation. As the chief student affairs officer, the VCSA will play a central role in the university's onward path to prominence and will lead a committed staff to shape and promote the vision of a fully integrated student experience.

UNL is a leading national research university consistently recognized for its value and access to the citizens of Nebraska and beyond. It is deeply committed to its land-grant mission and is pursuing an aggressive agenda that will position it as a nationally preeminent and a distinctive Big Ten university. Specific goals of this agenda include increasing enrollment; growing research expenditures; enhancing student retention and graduation rates; increasing the number of tenured and tenure-track faculty; prioritizing and expanding inclusive excellence and diversity; and increasing the number of faculty receiving national recognition and awards for their teaching, research, and creative activity. This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking student affairs professional who is innovative, entrepreneurial, and passionate about higher education, especially positioning UNL with a focus not only on students in the traditional on-campus undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels but as well as UNL’s increasing online student experience. The VCSA will be expected to provide visionary leadership to Student Affairs, ensuring the alignment with this plan, and collaborate across the university to meet these ambitious goals.

The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is responsible for a dynamic student affairs operation with a budget of more than $120 million and with a staff of 600 FTE managerial, office, and service professionals and 1,700 student employees. The VCSA will support an increasingly diverse student body and build an inclusive environment, manage and develop a strong student affairs management team, and provide oversight of a complex business enterprise. The VCSA will serve as a highly engaged and visible advocate for students and will build robust and meaningful connections within the campus community. Serving within the state’s public higher education system, the VCSA will support Nebraska’s access and affordability mission, as well as embrace the university’s Husker traditions and valued partnerships within the city of Lincoln and the state.
