Coordinator for Sports Programs

Appalachian State University invites interested applicants for the position of Coordinator for Sports Programs to become a part of the University Recreation (UREC) team as we facilitate an inclusive environment where recreation and wellness opportunities transform, engage, and care for the App State community. 

This position is primarily responsible for working with the Assistant Director for Sports Programs in the overall administration, fiscal management, implementation, and supervision of the Recreation and Intramural Sports program. The Coordinator for Sports Programs reports to the Assistant Director for Sports Programs.

The Coordinator for Sports Programs will have the opportunity to help support and expand the tradition of  Recreational and Intramural Sports leagues and programs that serve the App State Community.

With this position you will have the opportunity to:                     

  • Design, implementation, management, evaluation, delivery, and expansion of assigned University Recreation programs focused on Recreation and Intramural Sports. 

  • Mentoring, supervising, training, and development of part-time student staff, non-student employees, interns, and volunteers who support Recreation and Intramural Sports.

  • Supervise a team of undergraduate student staff who will help with the overall implementation and leadership of the Recreation and Intramural Sports program.

  • Ensure continuity in departmental and university business practices across Recreation and Intramural Sports (e.g., Waivers, Incident / Accident Reporting, Annual Reports, etc.)

  • Maintain proficiency with University Recreation software applications including, but not limited to, Fusion, TimeClock Plus, and When2Work.

  • Under the guidance of the UREC Communication team and working with the Assistant Director of Sports Programs, design and implement program outreach and communication strategies that connect, design, and invite students to be engaged in Recreation and Intramural Sports on campus..

  • Hold self, students, and staff members accountable to departmental expectations of creating an inclusive environment at UREC facilities and programs.

  • Implementation of a sports officiating development program that will support Recreation and Intramural Sports

  • Developing and implementing program policies and risk management plans that support Recreation and Intramural Sports

  • Assist in the annual budgeting process for the Recreation and Intramural Sports area which includes developing, forecasting, and reporting on revenues and expenses related to Recreation and Intramural Sports.

At a minimum you should have

  • Bachelor degree in recreation, sport management, physical education or related fields.

  • Demonstrated ability to create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates our shared humanity through the spirit of sports.

  • 1 year of relevant experience in sport rules design/implementation, programming, officiating experience, and training officials and staff supervision. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

  • First Aid and CPR Instructor or ability to earn certification 90 days after hiring.

The preferred candidate will have

  • Masters degree in recreation, sport management, physical education or related fields.

  • Experience administering and/or delivering sport programs in a college recreation setting.

 

Salary and benefits
