Austin Peay State University (APSU) located in Clarksville, Tenn., invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations for the role of Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). Austin Peay seeks an experienced and engaging leader who will implement and steward an impactful student affairs vision that works across divisions to support the experiences of a wide array of learners. Reporting to the President, the VPSA will serve as a vital contributor to the leadership team and as a member of the President’s Cabinet.

Austin Peay State University is a thriving public institution that serves the northern Middle Tennessee region, the state, the nation, and the world abroad. With more than 119,000 alumni, and a diverse population of more than 9,000 students, Austin Peay is classified as a Master’s Large institution by the Carnegie Foundation and offers doctoral, graduate, bachelor’s, and associate programs, with many programs offered fully online. Austin Peay has a strong relationship with the United States military and is one of only two universities with its own facility – at Fort Campbell – which serves more military-affiliated students than any other university in Tennessee.

The mission of the Division of Student Affairs at Austin Peay is to promote student success as well as personal and professional development through collaborative, holistic, and inclusive experiences and environments. Austin Peay’s Student Affairs team is dedicated to creating an individualized student-focused path for success through active engagement. Austin Peay offers more than 130 student organizations, including Greek life, intramural sports teams, service-learning groups, cultural and multi-cultural clubs, leadership organizations, professional and honors societies, and special interest groups. For students living on campus, the campus provides 11 residence halls offering traditional shared living spaces and apartment residence opportunities.

The VPSA will lead a robust and dynamic group of leaders across the Student Affairs division, including Student Life and Engagement, Career Services, Housing and Residence Life, University Recreation, Counseling and Health Services, Student Disability, and Community and Engagement and Sustainability. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the VPSA collaborates with the University’s senior leadership, deans, faculty, staff, students, families, and community partners to leverage best practices across APSU, a university that prides itself on the pursuit of excellence. The VPSA supervises nine direct reports and leads a team of more than 60 staff across 18 departments within the division of Student Affairs.

The new VPSA will hold a doctoral degree in higher education administration, student personnel, or other related fields, along with progressively responsible administration experience in higher education leadership and student affairs. The successful candidate will be a champion of the student experience with a successful track record of collaborating across the campus to foster a thriving and engaged student population.

With a population of more than 166,000, Clarksville is Tennessee’s fifth-largest city and is located just 45 minutes from Nashville. It is one of the fastest growing and youngest cities in the country. Clarksville was named the “No 1. Best Place to Live” in 2019 by Money magazine and boasts a county population topping 227,000. Nashville is a major metropolitan area of over two million residents which prides itself as the home of country music, in addition to its sprawling entertainment and cultural offerings across music, film, television, and as the home of the Tennessee Titans football, Nashville Predators hockey, and Nashville SC soccer teams.

This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Tennessee. The successful candidate will be expected to live in Clarksville. Salary will be commensurate with experience and will be accompanied by a generous benefits package.
