Position Description:

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Research Institute seeks an outstanding scientist in the field of implementation science. SickKids is a world-renowned paediatric hospital with seven fully integrated research programs (http://www.sickkids.ca/Research/). The successful candidate’s research program will be located at the SickKids Research Institute in the state-of-the-art Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning (686 Bay Street, Toronto, Canada), located in the Discovery District of downtown Toronto. This permanent faculty position offers a unique environment for medical science discoveries in close proximity to nine other academic hospitals/research centres and Canada’s largest university. The position offers the opportunity to conduct research, teach, and live in one of the most vibrant, safe, and diverse cities in the world.

 

The successful candidate will initiate and maintain an original, competitive, and independently funded research program of international calibre. Your research program will focus on developing and/or applying methods and strategies that facilitate uptake of evidence-based child health practice into regular use by practitioners/clinicians, health care organizations, and policymakers. You will have the opportunity to create, test and apply the knowledge you generated at one of the largest paediatric research hospitals in the world. You will integrate your research program with collaborative and diverse clinical and/or health policy groups within SickKids, aligning with our Precision Child Health initiative. In addition, you will have opportunities to collaborate with researchers throughout the University of Toronto community, including affiliated teaching hospitals and the new Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Children.

 

Appointed as a Scientist in the Child Health Evaluative Sciences program at the SickKids Research Institute, the successful candidate is expected to qualify for an academic cross-appointment at the appropriate level in an academic department at the University of Toronto and will be expected to contribute to the academic department through teaching, committees, and graduate supervision. The potential for collegial interaction will be important in attaining the position. This position will benefit from the extensive research and core facilities at SickKids, the University of Toronto and its affiliated institutions for clinical epidemiology, public health, health services research and health policy.

 

 

Required Qualifications:  

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a health-related field (e.g., Community Health, Sociology, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Health Administration, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, etc.), as well as significant postdoctoral research experience (i.e., at least three years). Applicants must have strong mixed method expertise and a proven record of outstanding scientific and applied dissemination accomplishments in implementation science (publications in peer-reviewed journals, extramural funding in implementation projects, presentations at significant conferences, increasing leadership experience in research, etc.). A track record of building and maintaining partnerships with multiple stakeholders to achieve common goals and/or field experience independently leading and facilitating the implementation of evidence-based innovations are an asset.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive benefits package is being offered along with support for relocation expenses.
