Assistant Teaching Professor of Biological Sciences

The Division of Biological Sciences (DBS) at the University of Missouri-Columbia (biology.missouri.edu) invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor position. Our Teaching Professors are full members of the faculty, with all privileges and rights afforded them by departmental bylaws. These positions are not “adjunct” appointments and are compensated as full-time, benefit-eligible members of the MU faculty.

We are interested in candidates with a commitment to and demonstrated record of inclusive excellence. The successful candidate will join a community of like-minded scholars and teach introductory biology courses to both majors (e.g. BioSci1500) and non-majors (e.g. BioSci1010) using intentionally inclusive practices with student-centered approaches. Opportunities to create and teach courses in an area of specialization are also available, as well as participation in curriculum development at the department level.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of independent college-level teaching experience, including large enrollment courses, using approaches that involve both active and collaborative learning in high enrollment courses and evidence of a commitment to inclusive teaching practices. Minimum qualifications include a PhD in the life sciences, science education, or related discipline by time of appointment.

This 9-month (full time) position includes full benefits and opportunities for promotion to associate and full teaching professor. The appointment will start approximately August 1, 2023.

For more information, inquiries can be addressed to Dr. David Schulz (Director, Division of Biological Sciences). Contact Human Resource Services (muhrs@missouri.edu) for any question about the application process.
