Kalamazoo College invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost.

Kalamazoo College is a selective, nationally renowned, and internationally oriented four-year college of arts and sciences. Founded in 1833, the College sits on a 60-acre campus located in a quiet residential section of Kalamazoo, a metropolitan community of 335,000 in scenic southwest Michigan just 35 miles from Lake Michigan and approximately 140 miles from both Detroit and Chicago. Western Michigan University is only a few blocks from the campus. The College enrolls 1,436 students from 43 states and 28 countries, with 33% domestic students of color, 17% first-generation, and 6% international. The College employs 100 full-time and 35 part-time faculty members. It values inclusion and equity in every aspect of campus life. Its mission is to prepare its graduates to better understand, live successfully within, and provide enlightened leadership to a richly diverse and increasingly complex world.

Named one of the 40 Colleges That Change Lives by Loren Pope, Kalamazoo College is best known for the K-Plan. Created in the 1960s, the K-Plan has evolved to be a distinctive, individualized curriculum that integrates rigorous academic classroom work, opportunities for experiential education and civic engagement in both domestic and international settings (70% of K students participate in study abroad programs), and an in-depth Senior Individualized Project. Kalamazoo College ranks in the top 2% in Ph.D. productivity among all U.S. colleges and universities and 17th in Ph.D. production among all private liberal arts colleges, according to the National Science Foundation. In addition, 90% of K graduates seeking jobs are employed within six months of graduation. In addition to an outstanding curriculum, Kalamazoo College boasts a distinctive and beautiful campus with many recent improvements, including the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership, and a new fitness and wellness center, opened in the fall of 2017, available to students, faculty, and staff.

Reporting to President Jorge G. Gonzalez, the Provost provides vision and direction for the academic programs of the College. There are currently 15 direct reports to the Provost, including the Associate Provost, CIO, Athletic Director, Registrar, and the directors of academic centers and programs. The next Provost will be able to lead a talented, diverse, inclusive and engaged academic community and partner with other leaders of the College to build upon and support an innovative vision for the College’s future during a time of great momentum with exciting initiatives on the horizon.
