ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR OF PLANT PATHOLOGY WITH EXPERIENCE IN WINEGRAPE PESTS AND DISEASE

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR OF PLANT PATHOLOGY WITH EXPERIENCE IN WINEGRAPE PESTS AND DISEASES 
The Departments of Horticulture & Crop Science and Wine & Viticulture at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, CA seeks applications for a full-time academic year, tenure-track assistant or associate professor to teach courses related to plant pathology. 

The candidate should have expertise in viticulture pest and disease identification, as well as an extensive background in general plant pathology. Starting date is negotiable, but on or before September 13, 2018 is preferred. 

The candidate must have a strong interest and commitment to teaching and working with students of different cultural backgrounds. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses that involve plant pathology, grapevine diseases, and plant disease management. 

Duties may also include, but are not limited to, supervision of undergraduate senior projects, graduate student research, student advising, and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program. The successful candidate is expected to participate in scholarly activities (i.e., research, grant writing, publications, presentations) as a part of his/her professional development. These scholarly activities should be focused on inclusion of undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate is expected to proactively develop collaborations that are intra- and inter-departmental as well as with other colleges and universities. The successful candidate is also expected to provide service on committees for the department, college, and university and participate in instructionally related activities. Expectation also includes service to local, state, national and other professional organizations. 
Scholarship is expected to cover grape pathology and may expand to other plant diseases. 

A Ph.D. in Plant Biology, Plant Pathology, or related field from an accredited institution, along with a strong background in grapevine vector/pathogen/host interactions. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across departments and disciplines, and to develop a collaborative research program. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and a commitment to diversity and inclusivity. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, government agencies and the general public is essential. 

Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required.
