Haverford College

President

Haverford College invites nominations and applications for the position of president.

A leading undergraduate liberal arts college located outside of Philadelphia, Haverford College is known for its academic quality, ethical engagement, sense of community, and beautiful arboretum campus. Home to just over 1,300 students, Haverford is among the most selective colleges in the country and maintains a 9:1 student to faculty ratio, finding value in a close-knit community where students are collaborators and colleagues on faculty research; ratify and steward an Honor Code that shapes their academic and social life; and participate in athletics, the arts, service, and scholarship while running more than 145 student groups. The Haverford faculty are internationally recognized scholars and thought leaders dedicated to working closely with undergraduates. Haverford’s three academic centers bridge curricular and co-curricular experiences, and students also benefit from a four-college exchange program with nearby Bryn Mawr College, Swarthmore College, and the University of Pennsylvania. Although the College is nonsectarian today, Haverford’s Quaker heritage continues to guide the community. Haverford students’ experiences are enriched by a longstanding ethos of individual and communal responsibility, which today’s students bear out in their academic and civic pursuits on campus, in the greater Philadelphia region, and around the world. Haverford alumni go on to have a disproportionate impact on the world with sixty percent of graduates obtaining advanced degrees.

The ideal candidate for the presidency will support rigorous and open academic inquiry, embrace a broad range of perspectives and views, and lead with a style well-fitted to a community where shared governance, consensus decision-making, and emphasis on the development of the whole student are deeply ingrained. Passionate about the benefits of an intimate, residential, interdisciplinary learning environment, the next president will be an active and accessible member of the community, frequently interacting with faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, the Board of Managers, and others outside the College. A strong prerequisite is the desire to participate on the national and international stage, working to enhance Haverford’s sterling reputation and engage with other leaders in the field and beyond.

Consideration of candidate materials will begin immediately and continue until a new president is named. The College is being assisted by the national executive search firm Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates. Nominations and letters of interest with a curriculum vitae may be sent in confidence to:
