Teaching & Outreach Librarian (Hybrid)
The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) seeks an empathetic, collaborative, and flexible individual for the position of Teaching & Outreach Librarian for The Claremont Colleges Library.
The Teaching & Outreach Librarian focuses on supporting the Library's successful first year information literacy program and the core curriculum of the five distinguished undergraduate liberal arts colleges of The Claremont Colleges. This position provides research, teaching, and learning support for first-year, second year, and transfer students, and is heavily involved in outreach and orientation efforts aimed at the undergraduate campuses. This position will also work closely with Subject Librarians who focus on supporting the research, teaching, and learning needs of upper-level undergraduate and graduate students. The Teaching & Outreach Librarian will participate on various Library, college, and intercollegiate committees.
Specific duties include:
Work Schedule : The regular hours for this full-time, exempt position are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5pm. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit.
Library Union : On March 21, 2022, eligible library employees voted in favor of unionization and representation by the California Federation of Teachers (CFT). TCCS and the Union have begun the process of negotiating toward a collective bargaining agreement. This position is included in the library employee bargaining unit and therefore is represented by CFT; the position will be bound by any collective bargaining agreement that is reached between CFT and TCCS and may be responsible for paying applicable union dues.
Vaccination : TCCS requires the COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. New employees are required to present evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or religious accommodation or exemption is requested and granted.
COMPENSATION
Pay : The salary for this exempt position is dependent upon qualifications required for the position, ranging from $5,375 to $5,583 per month.

- Deliver impactful Information Literacy Instruction (ILI) to undergraduate students in their first and second years.
- Provide information literacy instruction in the First Year Instruction program by:
- Collaborating with faculty to design and scaffold research assignments
- Teaching in-person or synchronous online ILI sessions
- Developing online learning materials (e.g., videos and interactive tutorials) to be used as alternatives or complements to in-person instruction
- Participating in student learning and programmatic assessment efforts
- Offering in-person and online research consultations
- Collaborating with faculty to design and scaffold research assignments
- Conduct outreach to various undergraduate student services, including affinity groups and campus writing centers.
- Provide targeted outreach to first generation college students by collaborating with various student or undergraduate programs. This may involve identifying opportunities to engage this population and other traditionally marginalized student groups by offering targeted Library orientations and information literacy instruction or by hosting events.
- Develop collaborative relationships with librarians, Library staff, faculty, and students to support the research, teaching, and learning of undergraduate students across The Claremont Colleges.
- Collaborate with and back up Subject Librarians who focus on supporting upper-level undergraduate and graduate students by providing some ILI and research consultations.
- Continuously work to improve teaching abilities by assessing student learning during instruction sessions, participating in pedagogical professional development at the colleges and within the profession, and by participating in the Library's peer teaching observation program.
- Strategically integrate digital and scholarly communication literacies into introductory ILI sessions.
- Contributes to training student assistants and coordinates various student assistant outreach initiatives.
- Contributes to the development of digital learning objects including interactive tutorials and videos.
- Contributes to the scaffolded internal professional development program aimed at expanding teaching skills and capacity within the division.
- Participates in Library-wide planning and assessment projects through service on teams, committees, task forces, and special projects.
- Actively engages in networking and professional development through national, regional, and/or local organizations through committee work, office-holding, presentations, and publications.

- At least one year of experience working in an academic library.

- Exemplary emotional intelligence when working with colleagues and users.
- Experience using Springshare's products (LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibChat, etc).
- Experience creating instructional videos or online tutorials.
