Assistant Teaching Professor, Forensic Science-Criminalistics

The University of Tampa invites applications for a full-time, 9-month renewable non-tenure track teaching position in Forensic Science – Criminalistics at the Assistant Teaching Professor level starting in August 2023.  The FEPAC-accredited Forensic Science program (https://www.ut.edu/forensic-science-major-video) is housed within the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics, in the College of Natural and Health Sciences.

Currently, over 100 students are in the FEPAC accredited forensic science program, which focuses on firearms/toolmarks, crime scene investigation, drug analysis, toxicology, and forensic DNA. Relevant equipment available to teaching faculty includes four firearms comparison microscopes, an FTIR microscope, SEM-EDS, crime scene alternate light source, and various crime scene investigation tools. Additionally, the department has an array of chemical analysis equipment including mass spectrometers, gas and liquid chromatographs, and an NMR spectrometer.  

Responsibilities

  • Teach in field of expertise, which can include firearms/toolmarks, crime scene investigation, latent prints/friction ridge evidence, trace evidence, or a closely related discipline
  • Teach introductory forensic science courses
  • Teach courses in physical evidence related to your field of expertise, seeking continuing education in those fields as needed
  • Teach a total of 27 contact hours per year and hold weekly office hours for students
  • Assist in curriculum and administrative decision-making for the forensic science program
  • Advise undergraduate students

Qualifications

  •  5+ years of experience working in a forensic laboratory in firearms/toolmarks, crime scene investigation, latent prints/friction ridge evidence, trace evidence, or a closely related discipline
  • Experience testifying in a court of law as an expert witness in your field of expertise
  • Teaching or training experience is preferred but not required.
  • Relevant graduate degree or coursework preferred
