The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) seeks an energetic and flexible graduate student who is excited about working with the community for the position of Muslim Chaplaincy Intern.

The Muslim Chaplaincy Intern ("Intern") will provide programmatic, logistical, and administrative support to the Muslim Life Coordinator specific to Muslim Chaplaincy related activities, programs, and operations. The Intern, under the direction of the Muslim Life Coordinator, will assist and support all aspects of Muslim life at The Claremont Colleges. The position requires organizing and running interfaith activities, including many programs and events that occur on evenings, weekends, and Muslim holidays. The position requires approximately 12 work hours per week (based on a multitude of factors) and will run until May 30, 2023. Specific duties include:
  • Logistical support and attendance of most programs which may occur on evenings, weekends, and Muslim holidays.
  • Organizing and running interfaith activities.
  • Publicity and marketing of programs (including e-mails, flyers, newspaper, calendars, brochures, website, Facebook, RSVPs, etc.).
  • Managing calendar and appointments of the Muslim Life Coordinator.
  • Occasional fundraising/grant writing assistance.
  • Assist with procuring and delivery of supplies and food when needed.
  • Advocacy for Muslim life on campus.
  • Development and coordination of programs focused on Muslim students of The Claremont Colleges, including graduate students.
  • Coordinating the recording, photography, and signs ups of events and programming.
  • Planning, coordinating, executing, and follow up of weekly, monthly, semester, annual, and major religious holidays (such as Ramadan and Eid) programming activities.
  • Assisting with updating Google Drive and BOX documents.
  • Coordinating with students, faculty, and staff, and off-campus partners when necessary.


Work Schedule : The regular hours for this part-time, temporary position are 12 hours per week through May 30, 2023. Work shifts may be available during breaks from classes by request. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit.

Vaccination : TCCS requires the COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. New employees are required to present evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or religious accommodation or exemption is requested and granted.

Other : This position requires a valid California Driver's License and and a driving record acceptable by the TCCS automobile insurer.

COMPENSATION

Pay : The pay rate for this position is $20 per hour.

Benefits : Due to the part-time and temporary nature of this position it is only eligible for the following benefits: California Sick Leave, workers' compensation, disability, Medicare, and social security, subject to the terms and conditions in the plan documents/policies.

ABOUT YOU

You are reliable, punctual and have an energetic and friendly personality. You must have knowledge of Muslim culture and customs or a sincere and keen willingness to learn.

Education : You are currently enrolled in and attending a graduate program for a master's or higher level degree.

Experience : You have some experience working with undergraduate and graduate student populations. It would be preferable if you also had experience planning and promoting small and large-scale events and information campaigns.

In addition, you:
  • Have excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills
  • Are flexible, organized, creative, energetic spirit
  • Have excellent planning, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Have excellent multitasking and organizational skills
  • Have a flexible schedule
  • Are responsive to communications in a timely manner
  • Are proficient in MS Office and Outlook
  • Are capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team, and
  • Have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments


If you have any of the following, it's a plus!
  • Experience working with undergraduate and graduate student population
  • A commitment to Muslim pluralism
  • Proficiency in BOX and Google Calendar, Mailchimp, Adobe, and Canva
  • Experience with web or graphic design
  • One year of continuous, relevant work experience
