Cottey College invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty.  Cottey is an independent, liberal arts and sciences college that educates women to be contributing members of a global society through a challenging curriculum and a dynamic campus experience.  For over 130 years, Cottey College has offered young women the opportunity to learn and grow into leaders, role models, and confident individuals. Students are challenged to push the limits of their knowledge and study and practice leadership.

 

The VPAA serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the College, responsible for all aspects of the academic portfolio as well as to uphold the College’s mission as a women’s-only college and its commitment to excellence in liberal arts education.

 

The VPAA will continue the focus on deepened support for faculty in their teaching, learning, and scholarly activities as they strive to enhance existing areas of strength and foster innovation in academic programs and the application of the technologies of teaching and learning. These efforts will enable the College to maintain its academic excellence and to envision and foster relevant programming within an environment of a women’s college dedicated to an academically strong and diverse student body.

 

Cottey is located in Nevada, Missouri, a peaceful, friendly county seat of approximately 8,200 residents located 90 minutes south of Kansas City, MO, in the gently rolling hills of southwestern Missouri’s prairie lands. Faculty and staff report that the quality of life is high and the cost of living is low. The community enjoys multiple civic, cultural, and social opportunities. Nevada has an active arts community with a theater, citywide mural projects, art exhibits featuring the work of area artists, and outstanding parks and golf courses. These activities are enhanced by Cottey College’s Performing Arts Series, which brings well-known speakers, entertainers, and performances to the College and the community.

 

The next VPAA will be a dedicated senior academic leader with a proven record of progressively responsible leadership. They will have a passion for higher education and for student success; intellectual curiosity; creativity; an understanding of the national dialogue regarding current issues and evolving trends in higher education, as well as the landscape of small liberal arts colleges across the country and especially in the Midwest, with a keen appreciation of the importance of becoming a more diverse and inclusive college community.
