The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Claremont Colleges Library of The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a dependable, helpful, and organized individual for the temporary position of User Services Assistant.

The User Services Assistant works closely with other User Services team members on core functions, which include providing outstanding user-centered customer service at the Library's busy service points. As the only staff member in the building during night and weekend shifts, this position requires sound judgment in responding to user needs, addressing security and building issues, and answering questions from User Services student assistants. Specific duties include:
  • Participate in the core functions of User Services, which include circulation, course readings (reserves), scanning, book pickup, etc.
  • Communicate information about the Library's policies and services.
  • Provide basic research support, helping users to find and use the Library's resources.
  • Learn the technology used by the Library, including library systems, printers, scanners, and assist users with troubleshooting.
  • Answer questions and provide guidance to User Services student assistants.


Work Hours : The regular work hours for this position are 40 hours per week, including the closing shift Friday and Saturday (1:45 pm to 10:15 pm) and at least one late-night closing shift (4:45 pm to 1:15 am). Other shifts can be determined based on candidate availability and unit needs. Schedule will vary during the summer, holidays, and breaks from school when the Library is open reduced hours. Candidate must have flexibility to cover service points. This temporary position is for six (6) months, with the possibility of an extension.

Vaccination : TCCS requires the COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. New employees are required to present evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or religious accommodation or exemption is requested and granted.

COMPENSATION

Pay : The pay rate for this position is $18.00 per hour.

Benefits : Due to the temporary nature of this position it is only eligible for the following benefits: California Sick Leave, workers' compensation, disability, Medicare, and social security, subject to the terms and conditions in the plan documents/policies.

Education : You have a high school diploma or the equivalent in a combination of education, training, and/or additional experience.

Experience : You have at least one (1) year of customer service experience.
