The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) a Special Focus Research public university located in downtown Baltimore City, seeks an innovative, collaborative, and visionary leader to serve as the next Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education. The Dean/Vice Provost reports to the Provost and serves as the principal academic and administrative officer of the Graduate School and leads faculty and staff who are committed to providing graduate students at UMB with an exceptional educational experience. As Vice Provost for Graduate Education, the incumbent will serve on the Provost’s Leadership Council and will work cooperatively with partners across the University and the geographic region to strengthen graduate and professional education. The Dean/Vice Provost will be charged with honoring and supporting the university’s signature PhD and Masters programs and serving as a catalyst for the development and launching of new self-sustaining programs that are in alignment with UMB’s strategic goals.


The Graduate School is an asset to the University with regard to high-impact partnerships, clinical practice, and research. The Dean/Vice Provost will play a key role in leveraging the power of collaboration to support the discovery of meaningful solutions to the complex problems impacting UMB, its schools, its strategic partners, and its communities. The Dean/Vice Provost will lead efforts to raise the graduate school’s visibility and branding that reflects its position as a top-tier graduate school.
