Indiana University South Bend invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement. This role serves as the chief student affairs officer for the campus and includes oversight of Campus Housing, Career Services, Counseling, Dean of Students Services, Disability Support Services, Parent and Family Engagement, Student Life, Student Conduct, the Titans Feeding Titans Food Pantry, and Veteran’s Services. The Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement has a particular role in ensuring an equitable and inclusive experience for all students.

The next Vice Chancellor will play a critical role in implementing a new IU South Bend strategic plan as part of IU 2030 Indiana University’s new strategic plan. Strategic priorities for the Vice Chancellor will include leadership of a holistic case management process for the campus, enhanced student belonging initiatives, implementation of new parent and family engagement strategies, expansion of leadership development opportunities for students, and improved multicultural student programs and services.

IU South Bend enrolls over 4,300 degree seeking students, making it the largest of the regional campuses of Indiana University. IU South Bend has 406 faculty, including 139 tenure/tenure track, 105 full-time non tenure track, and 162 part-time faculty. IU South Bend also employs 221 talented and dedicated staff members who support the teaching mission of the university. Currently, 34% of the total university population are students of color; 32% of the total population are underrepresented students of color; nearly 40% of the population are first generation college students; 42% of the total population are Pell recipients; 28% are non-traditional aged students; and 20% of faculty and staff are persons of color.

The Vice Chancellor reports to Chancellor Susan Elrod and works in conjunction with various Indiana University Administration offices, including IU’s new Vice President for Student Success Dr. Julie Payne-Kirchmeier. The Vice Chancellor will serve on the Chancellor’s Cabinet, and work with the Chancellor and other Vice Chancellors, as well as the Deans and other campus leaders, to implement the university's strategic direction and assure IU South Bend achieves its mission. The Vice Chancellor will oversee a team of 17, with five direct reports and over 70 student employees. The budget for student engagement includes $1.5 million in non-auxiliary (general and designated funds) and approximately $2 million in auxiliary funds.

The successful candidate for the Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement will have a Master's degree in higher education, counseling/student services or related field, doctoral degree preferred; significant and successful experience in student affairs administration including budgetary and personnel responsibilities, strategic planning, and program development; knowledge of student life issues, best practices, and future trends, and a demonstrated ability to use this knowledge to make innovative improvements to programs and services; demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships within all levels of an organization and especially with students; a deep appreciation of and support for shared governance; exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly present information, ideas, analyses, and data and interact effectively and collaboratively with senior leadership, faculty, students, staff, donors, and external constituencies; a record of proactive, creative, visionary, and ethical leadership; be adept at building consensus among multiple stakeholders on complex issues; commitment to and experience with the mission, goals, and operations of a regional comprehensive public institution; creativity and proven implementation skills necessary for quality co-curricular and other innovations, reforms, and modifications, along with experience working with student needs; the capacity to sustain a sense of humor, energy, and optimism while carrying out the demanding role of Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement; and the ability to see the big picture and seek out opportunities such as grants to advance IU South Bend.
