The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) seeks applications and nominations for the position of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA). The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) is the campus’ chief student affairs officer, providing executive-level leadership and vision in the administration of a comprehensive range of initiatives, services, and policies to assure an extraordinary student experience at UC San Diego. The position reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor and serves as a member of the Chancellor’s cabinet, working in close collaboration with academic and administrative Vice Chancellors and with the Academic Senate to support the vision and advance the mission of UC San Diego. 

 

The successful candidate will possess a graduate degree in higher education, student affairs, or a closely-related field. Skills and experiences necessary to perform in this position include: ability to facilitate change and build cooperative networks; substantial, progressive, executive and managerial experience in a student affairs administration portfolio; demonstrated leadership in integration of academic and developmental programs in a residential setting; working knowledge of student development theory; demonstrated leadership in oversight of NCAA intercollegiate sports and conferences; commitment to academic excellence; knowledge of assessment methodologies and data-driven decision-making; capability to set strategic direction and manage budgets and resources; commitment to public higher education and shared government in a university setting; ability to set clear goals and build a coherent entrepreneurial organizational culture; demonstrated leadership, administrative, and interpersonal communication skills; commitment to global citizenship, diversity, and inclusion; capable of effective action representing UC San Diego at local, state, regional, and national levels; ability to engage and cultivate alumni; and an established record of assisting the institution in achieving fundraising goals.
