Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement & Chief International Officer
The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), the flagship institution of The University of Texas System, invites nominations and applications for the inaugural Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement & Chief International Officer. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Senior Vice Provost is the Senior International Officer (SIO) at UT Austin and will provide leadership for advancing the University’s international strategy and global aspirations.
UT Austin seeks a creative, entrepreneurial, and broadly experienced leader to oversee a dedicated professional staff and lead a focused and comprehensive approach to global engagement that advances the profile, reputation, and mission of UT Austin. The ideal candidate will serve as the public face for global engagement at UT Austin and as an analytical, culturally competent, and organizationally savvy administrator who can help the University prioritize without alienating others. The Senior Vice Provost will assist units in identifying collaborators and opportunities, serving as a central point of contact, and supporting strategic international collaboration across campus. This will include teaching and learning activities with international partners, innovative and digitally agile research, entrepreneurial pursuits, high-profile events, and ongoing relationship building.
On campus, the Senior Vice Provost will oversee and provide strategic guidance to the International Office, comprised of seven units, and 140 staff and extension instructors in the areas of: study abroad, international student and scholar services, global risk and safety, passport services, external relations, English as a Second Language (ESL) services, and special projects. S/he will collaborate with senior administrators and faculty in Colleges, Schools and Units (CSUs) to create and implement a strategic plan for strengthening UT’s global presence across all CSUs. This includes collaborating with CSUs on curricular expansion with international partners, including the creation and use of smart classrooms and other facilities, shared teaching models, and online pedagogies. Utilizing and engaging the talents of those already on campus, this position will expand the University’s reach and impact nationally and internationally.
Externally, the Senior Vice Provost will liaise with alumni and coordinate with development efforts and CSU interests to increase internationally-based relationships and philanthropy. S/he will collaborate and actively engage organizations, such as the Global Commercialization Group as well as the International Board of Advisors (IBA) in connecting with key funders and research partners abroad to facilitate business development and other strategic goals of the CSUs and UT Austin more broadly. In addition, the Senior Vice Provost will oversee The University of Texas at Austin – Mexico Institute (UTAMI), a non-profit entity based in Mexico that facilitates and supports faculty and student research exchanges between UT Austin and Mexican institutions.
