St. John's University seeks an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the next dean of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business . Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the dean serves as the College's chief executive and intellectual leader. The person in this role is a champion of Tobin College's mission, and shapes the College's vision, goals, and objectives; generates resources in support of those priorities; and oversees the College's operations.
Originally founded in 1927, The Peter J. Tobin College of Business now has more than 3,000 students in a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, all supported by more than 150 faculty, administrators, and staff on the Manhattan and Queens , NY, campuses. The Tobin College's highly ranked programs are led by an outstanding faculty of teacher-scholars who are widely recognized for their publications, research, and expertise.
For more than 150 years, St. John's University has played a central role in New York City. One of the nation's most diverse higher education institutions-headquartered in the most pluralistic borough in the world's most important financial center-St. John's is one of the top 40 universities in the nation for social mobility, according to U.S. News & World Report . In early 2021, the University welcomed Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. , as its 18th President. Fr. Shanley joined the University at a time when it is well-positioned to play a role in the critical social movements emerging across society and at a time of tremendous institutional momentum.
As a senior academic leader, the next dean will build upon Tobin's rich history to articulate and advance a compelling and innovative vision for the College's future that centers on the following: recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional and diverse faculty, administrators, and staff; strengthening faculty and student focus on research; growing the marketability of its graduates to employers by working with faculty and the Board of Advisors to develop programs that align with job market demand; and advancing the University's antiracism initiatives to further develop a culture of inclusion and belonging.
