POSITION SUMMARY: The postdoc (PD) will work as part of an international and interdisciplinary team on a project supported by The Carter Center (TCC) with PI Gillian Stresman at USF, in collaboration with CoIs Manuel de Jesus Tejada Beato (CECOVEZ), Keyla Ureña (NMCP), Karen Hamre (TCC), Luca Nelli (University of Glasgow), and Chris Drakeley (LSHTM). The principal duties and obligations of the appointment are to conduct research in accordance with the needs of the funded TCC project on Freedom From malaria Infection (FFI). The 1-year project will work with the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) in the Dominican Republic and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to inform the refinement and application of the FFI framework to support decision-making for elimination. The postdoc will refine the FFI framework to maximize its’ potential as a programmatic tool, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, publish high-quality articles in peer-reviewed journals, and present at national/international scientific conferences. Opportunities also exist for teaching, learning and contributing to the epidemiology lab group, participating in an interdisciplinary vector-borne disease research interest group and executing independent research projects associated with the main grant on FFI. As the Stresman group is part of both the Epidemiology and Global Health and Infectious Disease Research groups at USF, training and collaborative opportunities will also abound for the successful candidate. The initial appointment will be for 1 year with the opportunity for renewal possible pending successful candidate progress and renewal of funding. DESCRIPTION OF QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have completed a PhD in epidemiology, statistics or other related discipline and strong skills in R. Experience in Bayesian model fitting with different methods (e.g., JAGS, Stan, Julia).

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with spatially explicit datasets in R and/or GIS environments and in the processing, management, and analysis of large opportunistic datasets (e.g., citizen science data, health surveillance data). Some background in malaria epidemiology or elimination science.  Candidates must be highly motivated, think independently and be willing to work as part of an integrated multidisciplinary and global research team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
The principal duties and obligations of the appointment are to conduct research in accordance with the needs of the funded research project and to generate data that will result in significant articles published in highly ranked, peer-reviewed research journals.
