Olympic College seeks a visionary, strategic, and results-oriented Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (VPDEI) who will lead and be responsible for promoting, developing, and implementing an integrated, strategic plan and shared vision that supports a college culture and climate that values and prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
The VPDEI influences and transforms the College in areas such as improving the recruitment and retention of diverse students and employees, eradicating equity gaps in student participation and achievement through Guided Pathways, building the capacity of students and employees to engage in equity work and dialogue, promoting inclusive curricula and culturally responsive pedagogy, and fostering an inclusive college climate.
The VPDEI will collaborate with stakeholders across all three campuses to assess the effectiveness of current diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, policies, practices, and structures. The VPDEI will develop, align, and integrate a range of existing initiatives, policies, and procedures into a cohesive platform that will foster a more diverse, inclusive, welcoming, and supportive community. Understanding that this critical work is the responsibility of all members, both individually and collectively. The VPDEI will guide the expansion and extension of the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion by cultivating dynamic and welcoming conditions to engage and prepare students and employees for equity work.
Reporting directly to the President and serving on the Executive Team (executive cabinet), the VPDEI advises all College stakeholders and community partners. The VPDEI participates in and represents the College at relevant local, state, regional, and national organizations, and bodies.
The VPDEI provides guidance, counsel, and support to the Diversity Advisory Committee and other College stakeholders as necessary oversees the Bias Incidence Response Team and collaborates with the Office of Institutional Research (OIR) to identify and use data to inform decision-making that will support student success and promote accountability for equity efforts across our campuses.
The VPDEI will lead and facilitate internal and external community engagement efforts, develop partnerships to bring about transformational change, and identify and support target areas to maximize the College’s impact locally, regionally, and nationally. In serving a multi-campus college, the VPDEI must engage passionately and deeply in several communities, including local tribes, reflecting the regional and demographic diversity that Olympic College represents.
Olympic College is a comprehensive community college on the Kitsap Peninsula, across Puget Sound from Seattle, WA. We offer academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates; four applied baccalaureate degrees; Transitional Studies including Adult Basic Education, high school completion alternatives, Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST), English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL); and community education. Through a national award-winning partnership with the U.S. Navy, we offer an Apprenticeship School at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility.

The Vice President will:
- Lead, implement, and assume executive responsibility for an integrated vision and plan for all diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies, programming, and initiatives that support the College’s mission across all Olympic College campuses.
- Lead and facilitate conversations, programming, and initiatives to assess and improve the climate and culture with the aim of creating a culture of inclusion and success for all students, employees, and community members, but with intentionality and purpose to encourage and engage marginalized and underserved student populations in dialogue.
- Foster an internal culture of accountability for diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, and develop and monitor equitable accountability measures throughout the College that are consistent with assessment, data, and evidence-based frameworks.
- Advise and consult with all College constituencies on legislation, policies, procedures, and issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and analyze and recommend culturally responsive improvements that remove barriers to student and employee success, foreground the impact on marginalized and underserved populations, and prioritize high impact strategies and evidence-based practices.
- Ensure and coordinate all diversity, equity, and inclusion requirements are met pursuant to those imposed by accreditation bodies, the State Board of Community & Technical Colleges (SBCTC), and all external local, state, and federal requirements.
- Collaborate with OIR to develop metrics and benchmarks of institutional progress to ensure accountability and monitoring of college diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, prioritizing those data related to student success of marginalized and underserved populations.
- Develop and recommend criteria to guide the College’s allocation of resources to support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- Oversee the responsible planning, stewardship, management, and accountability for the financial resources and personnel of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, including developing budget proposals, securing internal and external funding for programming, resolving personnel conflicts, supervising direct reports by providing feedback, recognition, coaching, and prioritizing and delegating work effectively.
- Serve as a member of the President’s Executive Team (executive cabinet), advising on and responding to emerging issues, opportunities, and challenges impacting the College’s ability to effectively move forward with diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, including climate and community relations.
- Represent the College with internal bodies, including participatory governance councils, committees, advisory bodies, and student government, and external bodies at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
- Provide executive leadership, support, and guidance for the Diversity Advisor Committee, consulting with them on substantial diversity, equity, and inclusion plans, strategies, and programs, as necessary.
- Cultivate and maintain sustainable, constructive relationships with diverse and underserved community partners and stakeholders, including communities of color and Indigenous and Tribal communities, acknowledging the critical importance of collaborating with local schools, industries, and communities, and connecting those partners and stakeholders with campus constituents.
- Develop timely internal and external communications to ensure the College and the broader community are informed of institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion activities and information.
- Oversee the College bias incident response protocols, support a college-wide team across multiple departments and policies, collect and report incident data, refer cases to the appropriate resources or bodies, and educate the College community about ways to foster an inclusive safe working and learning environment.
- Collaborate with Student Services and other functional areas to develop and expand outreach programs with community organizations designed to increase the enrollment and success of traditionally underserved and marginalized student populations, including students with disabilities, students of color, low-income, and justice-impacted populations.
- Partner with Student Success & Engagement and the Student Government of Olympic College to promote the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion through student’s voice, engagement, and leadership development.
- Collaborate with academic staff and faculty across Instruction and Faculty Senate to provide mentoring, coaching, and professional development to assist academic leadership, faculty, and staff in promoting inclusive learning environments and delivering inclusive curricula and pedagogy, including the College’s diversity and social justice general education requirement.
- Partner with Human Resources to support employees across all classifications, including administrators, classified staff, faculty and adjunct faculty, student employees, and part-time employees, by implementing strategies to attract and retain a diverse employee workforce. Identify professional development opportunities that promote cultural competencies and a climate of inclusion, maintaining equity and improving climate, fostering a sense of belonging, and preparing employees to serve an increasingly diverse student population.
- Coordinate with the Sustainability Advisory Council and its leadership to support environmental justice and sustainability initiatives throughout the OC campuses.
- Monitor compliance with pertinent state, federal, and corollary regulations and prepare reports as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Five years of experience in progressively responsible roles in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Three years of experience in supervision and management; or equivalent experience.
- Experience in leading, serving, partnering with, advocating for, and/or representing marginalized and underserved communities.
- Doctoral degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience in a higher education setting and a demonstrated understanding of culture in higher education, including participatory governance and respect for diverse views and opinions.
- A collaborative, team-oriented leadership style.
- Fluency in more than one language with a preference for the languages spoken by our student populations, including Spanish, Filipino/Tagalog, and/or Indigenous languages.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong theoretical, research-based, and working knowledge of best practices, issues, and trends related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including social, economic, racial, gender, and restorative justice principles, and the ability to translate that knowledge to others in the context of higher education, student development, and student success.
- Strong knowledge/understanding of specific needs, challenges, and opportunities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion work in STEM-focused and STEM-adjacent educational settings.
- Understand the broader history and context of higher education in perpetuating privilege, discrimination, and inequities against the contrasting opportunities for students, their families, and communities.
- Understand the experiences of historically marginalized and underserved groups, especially people with disabilities, neurodiverse communities, low-income communities, members of LGBTQIA+ communities, English language learners, immigrants, refugees, multiracial communities, and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) groups.
- Experience facilitating challenging conversations that produce positive outcomes, including but not limited to issues that address race, power, institutional racism, implicit bias, settler colonialism, patriarchy, and a culture of white supremacy.
- Experience with successfully developing, implementing, and facilitating training related to diversity, equity, and inclusion for a diverse range of audiences.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal law, including SBCTC policies and practices, and ability to read, understand and interpret policies and procedures.
- Ability to promote and exemplify transparency, trust, integrity, and high ethical standards within the institution.
- Ability to use emotional and cultural intelligence to effectively lead organizational learning and change efforts, such as those related to assessment, evaluation, continuous improvement, and accreditation, with a commitment to participatory governance and meaningful involvement of all constituent groups.
- Ability to provide leadership, coordination, and systems-thinking in strategic planning and development, policy development, resource allocation, fiscal management, and decision-making, informed by data and best practices.
- Ability to collaborate and form effective individual relationships and dynamic teams.
- Ability to work independently, analyze issues, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate adaptability when dealing with ambiguous situations.

- Strong conflict-resolution skills are needed to navigate sensitive situations to resolve problems, build consensus, and reconcile competing interests.
This position’s primary work setting is an indoor office, but may also include larger settings (e.g., classrooms, lecture halls), and occasional outdoor work throughout the year for events. Work may require extended time sitting or standing. Indoor settings will experience typical office noises, interruptions, and interactions. The office setting often requires privacy to preserve confidentiality. This position requires moving from one space or building on campus to another. The typical schedule for this position is 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends. This position may be expected to work additional hours dependent on the task or project. Flexibility and independence to set one’s own schedule may be provided based on operation requirements and service expectations, but the typical schedule should be consistent with routine business hours. Requires punctual and regular attendance. This position requires local travel for scheduled and unscheduled events, including meetings, conferences, events, and branch campus activities. It may also require regional or national travel. Overnight travel may be required.
Term of Employment
This is a full-time, exempt administrator position, the salary is $115,510 – $132,837 DOE/DOQ annually.
Benefits include an exceptional package including medical, dental, vision, life, vacation, holiday, and sick leave. This position requires flexibility in scheduling to meet the department's needs including travel, evening, and weekend events. Must be able to work during days, evenings, or weekends at any site or location as needed, including Bremerton, Poulsbo, and Shelton campuses. The hiring process may require travel to the Bremerton campus for an opportunity to meet with other executives and attend an employee forum.
