FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty-five campuses within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the slain civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education.

 

The Mathematics Department at Medgar Evers College, CUNY invites applications for a tenure track position in Mathematics (Statistics) at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. We seek a dynamic candidate with a strong background in both mathematics and statistics interested in contributing to the development of a nationally relevant program in mathematics focused on diversity and equity.

 

A primary responsibility for this position will include contributing to the development of new undergraduate programs in Statistics and Data Science, along with innovative courses that can be offered across the academic units at the college. In addition to teaching, the responsibilities of the position will include maintaining an active research agenda, advising undergraduate students, directing undergraduate research projects, and other duties as assigned by the Department.

 

The Department of Mathematics is located in a new state-of-the-art School of and Allied Health building which is equipped with smart classrooms, research modules and six computer Labs, two of which are dedicated to the teaching of mathematics. Our philosophy is to support our majors and all students through our tutorial program, colloquia, a vibrant math club, undergraduate research and community outreach initiatives. The faculty in the department conduct research in various areas of pure and applied mathematics, including algebra, geometry, representation theory, fluid dynamics, differential equations, number theory, topology, and the teaching of mathematics. Faculty also participate in seminars at the Graduate Center, the doctoral campus of the City University of New York.

 

Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Mathematics or a related field. Evidence of effective teaching, a record of scholarly achievements, ability to secure external funding, and experience working with diverse populations.

 

Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

 

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

 

Assistant Professor: $75,465 - $86,645

Associate Professor: $86,645 - $96,602
