Instructor or Lecturer, Film and Mass Media

The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for two instructor or lecturer positions in the Film and Mass Media program. These are nine-month, non-tenure-track appointments. These positions are anticipated to begin in August 2023.

Each successful candidate will contribute to the Film and Mass Media program's mission by teaching undergraduate at-level courses and, depending on the highest degree attained, may also teach at the graduate level. Graduate-level activities (if appropriate) will also include supporting the MFA degree by providing critiques, mentoring, and serving on graduate thesis committees. The teaching load for each position will be four courses per semester, as well as participation in school and university service, including committee work.

Minimum Qualifications:

A master's degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree (for a lecturer) in Film Production or a related field (e.g., Film Production, Screenwriting, Film Arts, Mass Communication, etc.) from an accredited institution by the start of employment. Candidates who hold a bachelor's degree will be considered only if they can document ten years or more of professional experience within the film industry. Applicants must have professional accomplishments and demonstrate a working familiarity with film production technologies and processes.

Applicants must also have excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative educational environment with faculty, students, and administrators.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year of college-level teaching experience in one or more of the following: cinematography and lighting (position 1) or film production management (position 2).

Professional experience and demonstrated fluency involving cinematography, lighting and grip, editing and post- production workflows, post-sound design, color grading, or mixing is desired for position 1. Professional experience and demonstrated fluency involving film production management, budgeting, scheduling, accounting, and risk management is desired for position 2. Strong candidates will have demonstrated support for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
