Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream

The Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a full time teaching-stream appointment in Mathematics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, and will commence on July 1, 2018 or as soon as possible after. 

 

Candidates must have a PhD in Mathematics or a related field by the time of the appointment or shortly thereafter, and must have significant experience in teaching Mathematics as primary instructor of courses at the university level. We seek candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching, strong communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to students' learning,  who possess the intellectual curiosity and drive to pursue innovative pedagogical methods, and are interested in establishing a long-term career as a teaching-stream faculty member in the department. Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogy will consist of outstanding teaching evaluations, teaching awards or accolades,  and a reflective teaching dossier (including a teaching statement and course materials), as well as strong letters of reference.  Candidates invited for an interview will be asked to present a lecture to faculty and students.

 

The successful candidate will join a vibrant group of teaching-stream faculty, who are engaged in pedagogical and curricular innovations and research. Faculty are expected to combine their expertise in the discipline with best practices in teaching to create rich learning environments that embrace diversity, promote equity, and integrate research in a manner that challenges students to develop skills and ethics to be leading citizens. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to perform standard professional and administrative activities typical of an academic department, and to collaborate with colleagues on program development.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
