Fairfield seeks a gifted and accomplished communication teacher/scholar with proven leadership ability as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship.  The successful candidate will be a departmental colleague who can provide effective leadership to a strong communication program in the context of a university that is growing in both size and quality.

Founded in 1942, Fairfield is a masters comprehensive university of 4,113 undergraduates and 1,079 graduate students.  Consistent with its Jesuit mission to educate the whole person for a life of service to others, the University prescribes a rigorous but flexible 60 credit-hour general education program for all of its undergraduates. It also offers some 44 undergraduate majors both in the liberal arts and sciences disciplines and in the more professionally-oriented disciplines in its schools of business, education, engineering, and nursing.  Fairfield also offers an array of master’s programs and a doctorate in nursing practice.  While reaffirming its commitment to undergraduate education for traditional-aged students, the University seeks to expand its graduate enrollment as well as to create more opportunities for adult learners through online education.  It is well along in a major building program that has enhanced the campus and provides the facilities commensurate with the University’s commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education.

By the number of majors, the Department of Communications is the largest in the College of Arts and Sciences and the fifth largest in the University.  It offers majors and minors in both communication and public relations as well as a master’s degree in communication.  A robust internship program for junior and senior majors, made possible by the wealth of opportunities in the Fairfield and greater New York City areas, adds an applied dimension to its curriculum.
