The Department of Statistics and Data Science at UCF is dedicated to high-caliber research at the intersection of statistics, machine learning, data mining, computer science, and applied mathematics and to developing the statistical and analytical abilities of students for success in an increasingly data-driven world. The department currently offers a B.S. in Statistics, a B.S. in Data Science, a B.S. in Actuarial Science, an M.S. in Statistics and Data Science with a track in Data Science, and a Ph.D. in Big Data Analytics. The Opportunity:

The Department of Statistics and Data Science in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for two nine-month, non-tenure earning, Instructors or Lecturers anticipated to begin August 2023.

The selected candidate will contribute to the Department of Statistics and Data Science mission through teaching undergraduate-level courses and, depending on the highest degree attained, may also teach at the graduate level. Instructional duties, based on the current workload policy, include teaching four courses each semester ('4-4'). The successful candidate will be required to teach statistics/data science/actuarial courses as well as contribute to teaching related activities. Full-time lecturers and instructors may have the opportunity to earn additional salary teaching summer classes, if funding is available.


Other typical responsibilities include appropriate service in student advising (academic and career), participating in the academic life of the department/college (e.g., attending faculty meetings, graduations, assessment of student learning, etc.).

External service expectations include work with appropriate academic disciplinary bodies and professional organizations. There is no research expectation for this position but research and scholarly activities may be supported.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

An M.S. (for instructor rank) or Ph.D. (for lecturer rank) in Statistics or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the time of hire is required. All but dissertation (ABD) will be considered as long as the degree is completed by the date of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to those with general teaching experience in Statistical Methods, Data Science and Actuarial Science courses.
