Assistant/Associate Professor - Educational Administration

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
We are searching for two outstanding educators/scholars to fill two tenure-track faculty positions in Educational Administration within the Department of Educational Leadership, beginning August 2023. These positions are for an Assistant Professor and for an Assistant or Associate Professor.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach synchronous online and/or hybrid courses in our graduate programs focused primarily on preparing graduates to be effective state, district, or school-level organizational leaders.
  • Assist departmental colleagues in supporting and improving academic programs, particularly the master’s program in school administration and the Ed.D. concentration in educational administration.
  • Mentor graduate students engaged in internship, practical, and research experiences by chairing or serving as a member of master’s e-portfolio and doctoral dissertations committees.
  • Maintain an active research agenda addressing issues related to educational administration, educational policy, and leadership.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as needed

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • PhD or EdD in Educational Administration or closely related field from an accredited institution (ABD candidates may be considered, dependent upon projected date that the doctorate degree will be conferred)
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a school and/or district-level admin in P-12 education
  • Demonstrated experience leading and/or facilitating adult learning opportunities in face-to-face and online learning formats
  • Evidence of success in collaborating with public schools and/or districts, as well as diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated evidence of ways research, teaching, and service contribute to building and sustaining equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Record of supporting masters/doctoral students through e-portfolios, thesis, and/or dissertation work
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly productivity as shown through publications in peer-reviewed journals in educational administration, school administration, educational leadership, or closely related fields
  • Applicants for a senior appointment must have a substantial publication record, current research agenda, a successful record of teaching, and evidence of faculty leadership.

The Department of Educational Leadership in the Watson College of Education is a diverse and dynamic group of educators and scholars committed to improving leadership at all levels of education. Through our teaching, scholarship, and service, we facilitate understanding, research, and implementation of practices that promote social justice, global perspectives, creativity and innovation, and capacity building—practices we believe are essential to educational leadership.

The Department of Educational Leadership is committed to the preparation, support, and collaboration with educators who seek or hold leadership positions in schools; school districts; institutions of higher education; and related boards, state and federal departments and agencies, and non-profit organizations. The Department of Educational Leadership offers four master’s-level graduate programs (Curriculum Studies in Equity, Evaluation and Organizational Learning, Higher Education, and School Administration), three concentrations within the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership (Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, and Higher Education), an undergraduate minor in Leadership Studies, and four post-baccalaureate certificates (Coaching and Mentoring, College Teaching and Learning, Community College Leadership, and Evaluation).

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a rapidly growing college with over 65 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It offers several international study programs, a newly developed laboratory school, and maintains partnerships with numerous school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in the region.
