The Opportunity
University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is a nationally recognized, public, urban serving university with core areas of expertise in cyber, including cybersecurity, computation, and informatics; health, including brain health and bio-regeneration; social-economic transformation and fundamental futures. It is the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region, with more than 34,000 students, and the third largest of eight academic universities and five health institutions within The University of Texas System.

UTSA is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Budget and Financial Planning who will provide direction, leadership, and management of the budget and financial planning for UTSA. This AVP will be overseeing the development of the annual operating budget, the Legislative Appropriation Request (LAR) and IRM resource allocation model. They will also be responsible for the tuition and fee proposal, long-range financial plan, analysis of various financial data, and all activities associated with the planning, development, maintenance, and resource allocation of the University’s operating budget in accordance with state, UT System, and campus requirements. This position will report to the CFO and Senior Associate Vice President of Financial Affairs.

Ideally this candidate will have seven years of progressive directly related experience in higher education to include accounting, finance and managing the central budgets of an institution/university of similar complexity and size to UTSA to include:

  • Five years of management experience with proven results demonstrating an ability to optimize staff performance and lead employees through change, and continuous business process improvements.
  • Three years of experience with an ERP system supporting budget, planning, accounting, or financial reporting functions
  • Fund budget/accounting experience working in an environment with similar complexity to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).
