Unit Mission Statement

The Global Research Institute (GRI) empowers teams of William & Mary students and faculty to make a difference in the world. We are a multidisciplinary hub that applies scholarly research to real world problems, investing in outstanding student and faculty scholars to catalyze new insights and cultivate the next generation of global leaders. Based in the Office of the Provost, GRI supports a whole of university approach to advance W&M by developing ideas, convening partners, creating and analyzing data, and inventing new methods. The Institute’s approach to incubate and scale applied research helps researchers push research frontiers and produce insights that matter at W&M and beyond. Position Summary

The Global Research Institute (GRI) at William & Mary invites applications for a Senior Program Manager of Student Initiatives. The Senior Program Manager will lead a wide variety of strategic initiatives related to student programming, and the position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting edge programs the engage both faculty and students in conducting applied research. The individual in this position will work with GRI’s Associate Director to lead and manage engagements with a multitude of stakeholders/partners to encourage careers, internships, and applied learning experiences both domestically and globally. Focus areas will include leading the Institute’s Global Scholar, Summer Fellow, and Internship Programs, among other applied learning experiences that support innovation and research.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field or an equivalent combination of training, education and/or experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities.

EXPERIENCE:

Relevant experience working for or with an institution of higher education, nongovernment organization, or other place of student programming, mentorship and/or career development.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Considerable knowledge of program administration, program planning and management, and program assessment and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience delivering programmatic products and recommendations for leadership, including written and oral presentations.
  • Proven analytical skills with ability to research complex issues, evaluate options, consider consequences and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding and complex work environment, to carry out assignments in a timely manner, and to adapt to changing situations and priorities
  • Proven skills and abilities to work with teams with track record of working collaboratively across institutional and/or disciplinary boundaries.
  • Record of delivering high quality data outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize exceptional planning and organizational skills and handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to conduct presentations for small and large groups to include a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and other internal and external stakeholders, promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion.

 

Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline, such as economics, social sciences, public policy, international development, international relations or related field.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience collaborating and working with and the global development/foreign policy community.
  • Previous experience leading international programs in a project and client management capacity preferred.
  • Previous experience working with external parties, corporations, organizations on student placement and career development.
  • Previous experience creating and implementing student focused events.
  • Direct experience in program development, implementation, risk management, assessment, and reporting.

 

Advertised Pay Range

$55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience
