The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) seeks two (2) positive, energetic, and experienced individuals for positions as Lead Building Attendant for our Central Facilities Services department. We have one day and one evening position available to work the following hours:
  • Day Shift : Mondays to Friday from 4:00 am to 12:30 pm. Saturdays and Sundays off.
  • Evening Shift : Wednesday to Sunday from 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Mondays and Tuesdays off.

The Lead Building Attendant is responsible for maintaining attractive, sanitary, and safe facilities for students, staff, and the public; minimizing property damage, loss, and liability exposure; ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner and overseeing and supporting assigned building attendants in the performance of their assignments. This role is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: responsibility for general cleaning and maintenance at all TCCS sites; lead responsibilities for other building attendant; and performing the full scope of custodial and general maintenance duties. This position exercises responsibility for the general cleanliness of all TCCS buildings and facilities, performing basic building maintenance duties, as well as responding to the priorities of staff and students. Specific duties include:
  • Maintain attractive, sanitary, and safe facilities for students, staff, and guests.
  • Serve as lead for other Building Attendants as assigned (e.g., providing direction, work coordination, scheduling, training, etc.) to maximize the efficiency of the work force and meet shift requirements.
  • Clean assigned spaces maintaining a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
  • Inspect TCCS facilities to ensure the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and to identify necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
  • Apply special finish to wood floors to provide the appropriate surface and preserve floors.
  • Participates in meetings as assigned to assist and convey information to team members as applicable.
  • Prepare facility for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, building access doors, disarming security systems).
  • Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns.
  • Secure facilities and grounds to avoid or minimize potential for property damage, loss and/or liability and ensure safety at worksite.
  • Train assigned personnel for developing professional trade and safety awareness skills.
  • Assist other personnel in the completion of their work activities.
  • Attend in-service training (e.g., blood borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) and convey information to team members as applicable


Work Schedule : The regular hours for these positions are 40 hours worked onsite with a half-hour meal break. We have one position available in each of the following shifts:
  • Day Shift : Mondays to Friday from 4:00 am to 12:30 pm. Saturdays and Sundays off.
  • Evening Shift : Wednesday to Sunday from 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Mondays and Tuesdays off.


You may be required to work occasional holidays, weekend, evening, and/or on-call hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit.

Vaccination : TCCS requires the COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment. New employees are required to present evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or religious accommodation or exemption is requested and granted.

Education : You have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience : You have four to five (4-5) years of relevant supervisory experience, including at least one year of experience in custodial or janitorial assignments.

License(s) : You must have a valid California Driver's License and driving record that meets the requirements set by our automobile liability insurance carrier.

In addition, you have:
  • In-depth knowledge of proper janitorial/custodial techniques.
  • The ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English.
  • The ability to work productively and effectively without continuous supervision.
  • The ability and willingness to work overtime and be on-call.
  • The ability to work in a safe manner and comply with all applicable safety rules and procedures.
  • Professional communication skills with a diverse population of team members, contract personnel, and other internal and external contacts.
  • The ability to work productively as a member of a team.
  • A demonstrated commitment and ability to provide quality customer service.
  • The ability to present a neat and professional appearance and be capable of performing all tasks and presenting oneself in a manner that reflects favorably on CFS and TCCS, and of promoting the interests of these organizations throughout The Claremont Colleges and TCCS.


Physically, you have the ability to:
  • Energy and stamina to successfully perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time every workday.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 3 feet, lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and team lift.
  • Reach overhead and outward, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, and work in uncomfortable positions.
  • Ability to work mostly indoors and occasionally outdoors in a range of weather conditions.
