Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Aerospace Technology faculty position at the rank of assistant/associate professor. MTSU seeks candidates who are committed to innovative teaching, robust research/ creative activity, and meaningful service. With twenty full-time faculty members, 100+ flight instructors, and over 1,000 majors, the Department of Aerospace is a signature department at MTSU and is one of the nation’s largest and most respected collegiate aviation operations programs. Majors can choose among six concentrations: Aviation Management, Aerospace Technology, Flight Dispatch, Maintenance Management, Professional Pilot, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operations. In addition, the department offers a minor in Air Traffic Control and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) as well as a master’s degree in Aeronautical Science with concentrations in Aviation Education, Aviation Management, and Aviation Safety and Security Management. 

The successful candidate is expected to teach classes primarily in the Technology concentration, undertake collaborative and multi-disciplinary research within the department and university, and be actively involved in university and professional service. The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in aerospace engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, flight test engineering, aviation systems, or closely related field by appointment date. Graduate coursework in aerodynamics and aircraft/flight vehicle performance/design is required (must be present on submitted transcripts). The candidate must also have an FAA pilot certificate. It is desired that the candidate possesses aerospace or flight-testing industry experience; collegiate teaching experience; the FAA CFI, CFII, and MEI certificates; and those with a doctorate or ABD in aerospace engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, flight test engineering, aviation systems, or a closely related field will receive special consideration.
