Temple University seeks an innovative and entrepreneurial leader, visionary thinker, and strong communicator as the next Dean of the Fox School of Business and Management and School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management. In collaboration with the faculty, the Dean will envision and execute a strategic plan that seizes upon Fox and STHM’s unique opportunity within Temple and Philadelphia. To that end, the Dean will leverage the strong platform that Temple’s breadth and stature offers—specifically, the opportunity to build new interdisciplinary degree programs and other collaborations with Temple schools.

Established in 1918, the Fox School of Business and Management (Fox) at Temple University has a distinguished tradition of preparing business leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs for successful careers. It is the largest, most comprehensive business school in the greater Philadelphia region, and one of the largest in the nation, offering bachelor’s, MBA, specialized master’s, and PhD degrees. Fox is accredited by AACSB international and is one of the largest schools at Temple.

Established in 1998, the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) prepares leaders in the sport, recreation, tourism, and hospitality industries. It offers undergraduate, master’s, and a PhD program offered in conjunction with Fox (a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Tourism and Sport), along with professional development certificates. STHM is a free-standing school that shares a dean with Fox.

As Philadelphia’s only four-year public university, Temple is now one of the top 50 largest universities in America with campuses in Philadelphia, Rome, and Tokyo. The University offers more than 600 degree and certificate programs, and it is among America’s largest educators in the combined fields of dentistry, law, medicine, pharmacy, and podiatry. In recent years, Temple students became Rhodes, Goldwater, Knight-Hennessy, Gates Cambridge, and Marshall Scholars. Temple alumni includes trailblazers ranging from the first female president of Princeton University to the first Indian American anchor on ESPN.

Temple offers 630 academic degree and certificate programs, including two associate degree programs, 176 bachelor’s programs, 182 master’s programs, 54 doctoral program, 13 professional practice degree programs, and 203 post-secondary and graduate certificate programs. Temple University and the Temple University Health System employ more than 17,000 people full-time, more than 3,000 of whom are faculty. Together, they are the second-largest private employer in Philadelphia. Temple generates about $4.6 billion in economic impact within the City of Philadelphia, supporting about 23,000 jobs and generating about $53 million in local taxes.

The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of both of the schools, responsible to the Provost for oversight and quality of all the school’s academic and research programs. The successful candidate will identify new opportunities for growth, and advocate for Fox and STHM and the important roles they play in the University’s research, outreach, and education mission.

The new Dean will bring high academic standards, an outstanding record of scholarship, and strong leadership and management skills and must possess a terminal degree and the qualifications for appointment as a tenured professor, per Fox School of Business and Management guidelines. The successful candidate will also be a strong leader who empowers others’ vision for success and demonstrates a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in a meaningful way.

The successful candidate will bring either an impressive record of scholarly achievement in the academy with a track record of leadership and administrative experience, or a recognized career of achievement in another sector, with a strong understanding of business education, scholarship, and university culture.

This individual should have a strong administrative record, with operational and administrative management skills, and demonstrate strategic leadership, possess excellent communication skills to engage with multiple stakeholder, including faculty, staff, students, fellow Temple leaders, industry leaders, alumni, and Board members.  A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is required; collaboration, communication skills, and demonstrating a commitment to values will also be important for the successful candidate.
