Manhattanville College announces a national search for a visionary, collaborative, and entrepreneurial academic leader to serve as the next Dean for the School of Education. This is a premier opportunity for an educator who understands the changing landscape of education in New York State and nationally to play a pivotal role in setting a new direction for the School. The new Dean is expected to be appointed in March 2023 and to assume the role on July 1, 2023.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean for the School of Education (School) is expected to provide leadership and vision; foster a high-quality student experience; support student academic success; evaluate curriculum and provide direction and support for new academic programs; pursue new relationships and enhance existing partnerships with community stakeholders; ensure the upward trajectory of program enrollments, both online and on campus; oversee the operation of the school in a manner that improves its fiscal health; support faculty and staff; maintain a strong relationship with the New York State Education Department; oversee successful re-accreditation efforts; and diversify revenue through community partnerships and grants.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

• Terminal degree in the field of education
• Ten years of academic leadership experience
• Record of teaching, service, and scholarship that merits the award of tenure in the School of Education

Preferred

• Visionary leader who understands that the field of education is changing, and that educator training must provide current and future teachers and administrators with the knowledge and tools necessary to support and educate students within that changing environment
• Experienced educator, ideally with higher education and K-12 teaching experience
• Experience with and commitment to using assessments and other data to identify opportunities for improvement and to measure outcomes
• Proven success in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and learning
• Experience engaging with senior leadership to further a shared strategic vision
• Proven ability to assess and adjust curriculum to prepare education students for career success
• Deep understanding of the accreditation process and a record of leadership in (re)accreditation efforts
• Record of financial leadership success
• Ability to work collaboratively with College leaders (including other Deans) to promote and support the School and establish strategic and collaborative connections across the institution
• Community building experience and successes
• Ability to secure external programmatic funding
• Excellent people management skills, including the ability to inspire innovation and bring people together to work toward a common goal
• History of establishing internal and external partnerships that benefit the institution, student learning, and the community
• Commitment to shared governance, open communication, and collaboration
• Well-established working relationship with the New York State Education Department
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
• Strong public speaking skills
