Emory University seeks a visionary, collaborative, and inclusive leader as its next dean of the Emory College of Arts and Sciences. Nominations, inquiries, and applications are invited.

Emory College, founded in 1836, is Emory University's primary undergraduate division with more than 5,900 students. Its intensive liberal arts curriculum is backed by all the resources of one of the world's top research universities. With 45 core departments and programs, 86 majors, and 63 minors, students in the College explore widely and dive deeply in rigorous courses of study that emphasize critical thinking, the nature of evidence from multiple perspectives, and the ability to effectively reason and communicate. The College's students are encouraged - and expected - to ask bold questions and expand the boundaries of knowledge. As the academic core of Emory University, the College is driven by passion for inquiry and discovery. Leading the way is its renowned 550-member faculty who bring their path-breaking research and commitment to teaching excellence to the classroom every day.

As the chief academic, administrative, and fiscal officer of the College, the dean works collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and other supporters to further advance the College to the highest levels of excellence in pursuit of its mission. Reporting to the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, the dean will represent the College's interest within the Council of Deans as well as collaborate and partner effectively with deans of the other undergraduate and professional schools and senior administrators across the University. The dean will oversee all academic programs at the College and the many interdisciplinary centers and institutes within the College. The dean will provide the vision to guide the recruitment, retention, and development of a talented and creative faculty and staff to enhance and amplify the overall quality of the College and reputation of the institution, ensuring an environment where all can flourish. The dean oversees and optimizes an annual budget of approximately $300 million and $25 million in grants.

The next dean must possess superior academic credentials and a record of scholarly achievement that merit the rank of a tenured professor at Emory. A demonstrated and progressive track record of administrative leadership in a complex university is required. The next dean should also demonstrate an ability to lead, envision, and innovate; to engage and unite constituents; to listen carefully and communicate persuasively; to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively; to understand and support the needs of all disciplines; to secure external funding; and to operate the College's administrative and budgetary functions with a high level of skill. In addition, a steadfast commitment to the success of faculty, staff, and student flourishing in a dynamic research university is essential.
