Title IX Coordinator and Civil Rights Officer

California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) in Vallejo, a unique 1,100-student campus within the CSU system on track to be the most diverse maritime academy in the country, seeks a mission-driven and collaborative professional to serve as its next Title IX Coordinator and Civil Rights Officer.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA), the Title IX Coordinator and Civil Rights Officer serves as the University's subject matter expert on Title IX implementation and is tasked with monitoring and overseeing the University's compliance with Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and the Clery Act and other related federal and state laws and regulations. Additionally, this professional ensures adherence to all relevant CSU Executive Orders and other CSU or campus regulations, policies and agreements related to sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, dating violence and domestic violence, stalking, and related retaliation.

The individual in this role will ensure a centralized, timely, fair, compassionate and comprehensive response to reports of sex discrimination, and will oversee the investigation of formal complaints involving students, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate will possess strong relational abilities as they will be responsible for working within the Cal Maritime community to educate students, faculty, and staff about available supportive measures, reporting options, and the University's process for responding to formal complaints of sex discrimination. Finally, as the University's Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation (DHR) Administrator, the position will respond to all DHR complaints, overseeing and tracking all investigations, and issuing recommendations and outcome reports in collaboration with Human Resources and Academic Affairs when employees are involved. A BA and a Master's degree or JD are required, as are a minimum of five (5) years of progressive responsibility overseeing a Title IX program in a higher education setting and conducting investigations.

Located on a compact and scenic waterfront campus in Vallejo, California, Cal Maritime is a unique and specialized campus of the 23-campus California State University system. It is one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States - and the only one on the West Coast. Cal Maritime has the highest employment rate in the CSU system - 94% within three months of graduation. Government data show Cal Maritime alumni have the highest average salaries of any college or university (public or private) in the western U.S. At Cal Maritime, all students are in the Corps of Cadets. They are required to wear uniforms, attend formations and "stand watch." However, there is no armed service obligation requirement.
