Tenure-Track Assistant Professorship

United States Labor History

The history department at Wayne State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professorship in labor and working-class history in the United States, to begin August 2023. Located in the heart of Detroit, birthplace of the American labor movement, Wayne State University has a long history of excellence in labor studies and is home to the Walter P. Reuther Library, the preeminent labor archive in the world.  This hire is part of a larger scale university reinvestment in labor studies.  Topical specialization is open with a preference for scholars engaged in exploring labor’s intersection of race, gender, and/or immigration/ethnicity in the mid-to-late twentieth century. The department seeks candidates with an independent research agenda and a willingness to work in collaboration with labor studies scholars. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship is essential; duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service. Candidates must have PhD in hand by August 2023.
