This is a tenure eligible, Assistant Professor, School Counseling, academic year position based in Flagstaff, Arizona in the Department of Educational Psychology. The appointment will begin the Fall 2023 academic semester.
The Department of Educational Psychology is part of the College of Education and offers in-person CACREP-Accredited Master's degrees in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Applied Human Behavior, Master's degrees in Counseling Student Affairs and Human Relations, a PhD in Combined Counseling/School Psychology, a PsyD in Clinical Psychology, and an EdS in School Psychology. The Department of Educational Psychology has statewide locations that also offer accredited programs.

Job Description
The Department of Educational Psychology (EPS) is seeking to fill a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of School Counseling position at our Flagstaff Mountain campus beginning in August 2023. The position is a 9-month Tenure Track faculty line with the opportunity for summer course teaching. Although successful candidates will have experience and specialization in School Counseling, they will also be expected to teach coursework to CACREP students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and will have enthusiasm for teaching at the graduate level, and for training culturally responsive and ethical counselors to serve the needs of communities in Arizona and beyond.
Responsibilities:
Teach graduate counseling classes (including practicum and internship) for the EPS programs, focusing on the CACREP accredited MEd Counseling School Counseling (SC)and MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and programs Advance research agenda in area of expertise Assist in recruiting and advising SC counseling students Serve as a leader and mentor for the Flagstaff-based SC program Fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, and the profession Work collaboratively with schools and agencies to coordinate practicum and internship experiences for counseling students Work with schools and agencies to coordinate practicum and internship experiences for counseling students
Minimum Qualifications
Earned Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from an accredited CACREP program by date of hire - OR - meet CACREP criteria for Core Faculty. ABD's will be considered so long as dissertation is completed by end of first academic year. College teaching experience (can include college teaching as a graduate assistant) Minimum of one year applied experience in the field of Counseling, with background/experience in school counseling and/or mental health counseling Licensed/certified or eligible for licensure/certification as a Professional Counselor or School Counselor in Arizona and/or willing to seek licensure/certification as a Professional Counselor or School Counselor in Arizona.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated success in teaching graduate level courses in the area of counseling and/or counselor education Evidence or strong potential to develop and maintain independent and collaborative scholarship in area of expertise Evidence or strong potential to prepare and manage external grant proposals/programs in area of expertise Ability/experience in teaching school counseling courses such as foundations of school counseling and school counseling practices Experience, knowledge and skills in supervising practicum and internships, and teaching multicultural counseling, counseling theories, and counseling techniques Ability/experience or strong interest in recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students Ability/experience working with graduate students on research projects Demonstrated efficacy in working with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds (e.g., culture, gender/sexuality, language, disability, class); and understanding of the diversity of rural and southwest communities Active involvement or leadership roles in counseling related professional associations such as the American School Counseling Association and American Counseling Association Experience in networking/collaborating with schools and/or agencies

If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment.
