Benedict College, located in the capital city of Columbia, South Carolina, is a private co-educational liberal arts institution with over 1,700 students enrolled in baccalaureate degree programs and two master’s degree programs. This HBCU welcomes students from all 46 counties in the state, 30 states across America, and 26 countries around the world. The College seeks a strategic, collaborative, innovative, transformational leader and executive, with demonstrated experience managing a robust academic portfolio, to serve as Dean of the School of Communication, Arts and Social Sciences at an exciting time in the College’s history. It is comprised of two academic departments: 1) Communication and Arts and 2) Criminal Justice Administration and Social Sciences.

 

The Dean is the academic leader of the school, reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and is responsible for spearheading the implementation of the teaching, research, and service mission of the school in accordance with the Strategic Plan. The Dean is expected to play a pivotal role in seeking external support for the school’s programs in research and education, while providing leadership for the pursuit of national accreditations and excellent placements for graduates. The Dean supervises department chairs, coordinates faculty hires, facilitates positioning of programs for effectiveness and efficiency, coordinates efforts for retention of students, leads efforts for graduate placement and assessment, and directs special initiatives in support of the programs in the school.

 

Qualifications include: an earned doctoral degree in a discipline of the school and the earned rank of Associate Professor with at least five years higher education administrative experience. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in enhancing student learning outcomes and management of faculty to do the same, demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies, and a knowledge of and experience with specialized program accreditation requirements and procedures.
