Term Assistant Professor of Management

 

The Management Area of the School of Business at George Mason University has a Term Faculty appointment open for a qualified individual to teach strategic management courses starting August 2018. The initial appointment is for one academic year, subsequent renewals are based on performance, programmatic needs, and budgetary constraints. This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: 

The teaching load for this position is determined according to the School’s workload policy (i.e., 18 or 24 credits per year based on assigned qualification). Summer teaching for additional compensation may be available upon successful renewal of term contract. Additional responsibilities include service to the Management Area, the School of Business, the University and the profession, such as student mentoring, committees, and interfacing with students and the business community.

The successful candidate is expected to be able to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in strategic management but will have a special role in coordinating the capstone course required of all undergraduate business students. Subsequent teaching assignments may include courses in entrepreneurship and international business. The position may require teaching across all three Virginia campuses (Fairfax, Arlington, and Prince William). Service may be to the Management Area, the School, the University and the profession. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in management from an AACSB-Accredited school by August 2018, and either business education or business experience in strategic management.
  • Evidence of willingness to provide service, as well as collegiality and adaptability.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Strategic management teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Distance/online teaching experience; 
  • Supervisory experience; and 
  • Business experience.

The management area currently consists of 20 tenured, tenure-track, and term faculty. We are a collegial group and term faculty members are considered full partners in our commitment to prepare a diverse student body to succeed in a global business environment.
