Dean, School of Business

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville invites applications for the position of Dean of the School of Business. The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the School and reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. 

In fall 2017, the School had 50 full-time faculty, and approximately 1300 undergraduates and 175 graduate students. The School offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration, Accountancy, Computer Management and Information Systems, and Economics and Finance. Graduate degrees include: Master of Business Administration, Master of Marketing Research, and Master of Science degrees in Accountancy, and Computer Management and Information Systems. The School and the Accounting program are separately accredited by the AACSB International. 

The University’s mission and vision convey a strong commitment to student-centered education and growing innovative, interdisciplinary programming. Therefore, candidates should exhibit knowledge of best practices in promoting student learning and encourage innovation in teaching and academic programming. Strategically, the University is increasingly focused on developing online programming, graduate and community engagement programs and enhancing internationalization to which the Dean is expected to contribute. Equally important is the School’s commitment to excellence in scholarship. With an active commitment to research, the faculty regularly publish in leading peer- reviewed journals. The successful candidate is expected to foster excellence in research and external funding. The Dean will have the opportunity to build on the strengths of the School to achieve higher levels of academic distinction and national recognition. 

The School is dedicated to serving the community. It engages active advisory boards, and its outreach activities include Executive Education Programs and programs dedicated to International Trade and Small Business Development. The Dean will actively collaborate with professional organizations in the region and cultivate relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners. 

Other responsibilities include developing, implementing and monitoring the teaching and service missions of the School. These activities include overseeing faculty and staff development within the unit; fostering relationships with student organizations; administering the policies established by the University and School; providing leadership and promoting innovation; maintaining accreditation in existing programs; and facilitating communication within the School and the University as well as with the public. The dean will also contribute towards enhancing University’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity. 

Qualifications
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in one of the fields of study offered by the School or in a closely related field with sufficient accomplishments for appointment as a tenured faculty member in a department of the School. Evidence demonstrating innovative leadership and administration, scholarship, teaching excellence, service, corporate engagement, and fundraising ability is required. The School and Accounting Program are separately AACSB accredited and candidates must possess significant administrative experience at an AACSB accredited institution and with the accreditation process. Successful candidates will have the capacity to foster relationships with alumni, community and industry partners, and other stakeholders.

Terms of Appointment
Continuing, 12-month, 100%; beginning July 1, 2018.
