Experimental Animation Full-Time Faculty Positions

The School of Film/Video at CalArts seeks candidates for two full-time faculty positions in the program in Experimental Animation. We are seeking artists with a commitment to an experimental animation practice demonstrated by a record of effective teaching and personal creative work recognized in the field.

The Experimental Animation program fosters the individual voice of the filmmaker in developing innovative approaches to animated moving images. We are a community of artists who explore what animation can be, and push boundaries of its craft, conceptual engagement, and presentation.

We welcome a broad range of applicants, from emerging to established artists and teachers. Ideal candidates would have in-depth knowledge of animation practices in one or more of the following areas: drawn animation, stop-motion animation, CG animation, interactive media, emerging animation technologies, or installation work. We expect the candidate to have significant professional accomplishments and at least two years teaching experience at the college level or comparable experience with other forms of instruction.

CalArts and the School of Film/Video value the individuality of artists and welcome the addition of unique and inventive voices to our diverse, collaborative community. We seek to employ faculty who can engage our diverse communities of learners at the highest levels of artistic endeavor and critical thinking. We welcome candidates who possess a demonstrated worldview and cultural competency to support teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students of varied backgrounds, capabilities, perspectives, social identities and gender expressions. CalArts is an equal opportunity employer.
