DEAN, BENJAMIN T. ROME SCHOOL OF MUSIC

The Catholic University of America invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music. The Dean’s principal responsibility will be to help lead the next stage of development in the academic life of the school. The Benjamin T. Rome School of Music is the preeminent center for music study in Catholic higher education in the United States and is internationally recognized for perpetuating the Church’s historical role in uplifting the human spirit through the study and performance of music.

The next Dean will be the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music’s chief executive and academic leader, guiding its vision, generating resources in support of that vision, promoting the visibility of the school externally, and managing operations. He or she will be responsible for all aspects of academic life within the school, including educational and performance excellence. The Dean, working with the faculty, will provide overall leadership within the school for strategic planning, academic program development and review, budget management, and the hiring, promotion, and tenure process for faculty.

Dedicated to advancing the dialogue between faith and reason, Catholic University seeks to discover and impart the truth through excellence in teaching and research, all in service to the Church, the nation, and the world.” He or she shall also have (2) a proven record of experience as an excellent arts manager, demonstrated through successful administration in higher education or other relevant arts organizations; (3) academic credentials and/or equivalent professional experience in the field of music commensurate with the University’s standards of continuous tenure; (4) proven fundraising success; (5) the ability to develop and market the School of Music’s educational offerings and performances; (6) the manifest  capacity to articulate a clear vision for the school’s future; and (7) a deep sense of caring for students, faculty, and staff.

The Search Committee will begin reviewing candidates immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For priority consideration, please apply before March 24, 2018. The Search Committee will review all candidates for the position of Dean and will recommend the strongest candidates to University President John Garvey for final consideration.
