Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculty

Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculty

Colby-Sawyer College seeks a strategic, collaborative, and responsive leader to serve as Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculty. The Academic Vice President and Dean of Faculty (AVP) serves as the chief academic officer and second-in-command at the College and will have the opportunity to lead and empower a collaborative group of faculty and academic area staff.  Additionally, the AVP will assist in developing transformative programs and experiences for a talented student body. The AVP will find Colby-Sawyer committed to liberal education as well as several strong pre-professional majors. Colby-Sawyer’s strong sense of community, deep commitment to student success, and willingness to go the extra mile for students and for each other has enabled the College to adapt successfully to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and to work together toward the future.

With a current total enrollment of close to 1,000 students, Colby-Sawyer is a dynamic and innovative liberal arts and sciences college located in the scenic Lake Sunapee Region of central New Hampshire. Colby-Sawyer offers 27 majors and 27 minors, along with several pre-professional tracks of study.

In 2019, Colby-Sawyer and Dartmouth Health announced an enhanced partnership to expand on their existing nursing and health science program and explore additional areas of health science-related education and training. The Dartmouth Health System is the region’s premier academic health system, which includes Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center ― New Hampshire’s top-ranked medical center and that state’s only level-one trauma center.

Reporting directly to President Sue Stuebner, the AVP serves simultaneously as a senior college administrator and as leader of the faculty. As the chief academic officer and champion of the College’s academic mission, the AVP must be both an advocate for, and leader of, the Colby-Sawyer faculty.  Moreover, the AVP is a collegial and effective member of the President’s entrepreneurial and high-functioning senior leadership team. Both faculty and administration seek in their next AVP a strong, visible, and engaged leader who can persuasively articulate the value of the College’s particular approach to liberal education across campus as well as throughout the national and international landscape of higher education.

The AVP’s core responsibilities include supporting and championing the work of the College’s faculty and providing high-level vision and leadership for the College’s many academic programs and support services. Given the strong focus on undergraduate education, the AVP must be committed to supporting the faculty in their work with students both inside and outside the classroom.
