The Opportunity
The University of Richmond is the nation’s only top liberal arts college that is also home to a highly regarded undergraduate business school, and is home to the first undergraduate school of leadership studies in the nation, a highly regarded school of law, and a school of professional and continuing studies that reaches thousands of individuals in the region each year. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, the Chief Human Resources Officer (‘CHRO”) will lead through a combination of influence, empathy, strong partnership, business acumen and the demonstration of exceptional functional expertise. In this culture, the CHRO will require excellent communication skills, the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of constituents, and the demonstrated ability to negotiate and advocate in a manner that advances the mission of the university.

The CHRO will lead a strategic and -service-oriented HR division characterized by functional and operational excellence to drive execution across all levels of the organization while measuring both group and individual performance against key operational, strategic and financial results. The CHRO will work closely with Richmond’s administration to align human resources and financial and operational systems for optimal efficiency.  Ultimately, the CHRO will work to fulfill the University’s aspiration of creating a work environment in which every employee can work at their natural best.

The ideal candidate will have more than 10-years of HR leadership experience in higher education or other large, complex, decentralized organizations and have proven experience leading organizational change. A bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred.
