POSITION DETAILS

For over 15 years, the CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) has been leading online education in New York. Notable for offering the most online bachelor’s and master’s degree options at the City University of New York, and for serving transfer students as the University system’s first undergraduate all-transfer college, CUNY SPS meets the needs of adults who wish to finish a bachelor’s degree, progress from an associate’s degree, earn a master’s degree or certificate in a specialized field, and advance in the workplace or change careers.

The School’s growth has been remarkable, with twenty-four degrees launched since 2006. Enrollment has risen by more than 30% in the last four years to over 4,000 students in the credit-bearing programs. Thousands more are enrolled in non-degree and grant-funded workplace learning programs. In addition, the School has an active alumni network and has established the CUNY SPS Foundation, which offers multiple scholarship opportunities to current students.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research, the role of the Institutional Research Specialist/Business Intelligence Specialist is to manage data retrieval and conduct analysis in order to transform data into insight that can help to improve the student experience and outcomes. In addition to the duties within the CUNY Title Overview, this includes:

• Developing and managing business intelligence solutions for the School;

• Using business intelligence software solutions to develop data reports and dashboards for a variety of constituents;

• Ensuring uniformity and accuracy of data reporting through effective data management, security, stewardship, and governance processes;

• Assisting with identifying potential problematic data and recommending solutions to prevent errors in reports;

• Writing reports based on the data analysis;

• Creating and maintaining technical and business documentation that details the processes of developing reports and dashboard;

• Assisting with the development and roll-out of training for end users on the use of reports and dashboards;

• Assisting with creation and maintenance of data structures needed to employ business intelligence solutions.

Note:

  • Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen.   • Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

Other qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree in business intelligence, computer science, or a related field preferred;

• Experience in data analysis;

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills ;

• Proficient with data visualization software (e.g., Cognos, Tableau);

• Proficient with SPSS, SPSS syntax, Excel, SQL database, R;

• Ability to work creatively and independently and as part of a team;

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate in both technical and non-technical environments, including the ability to interpret technical jargon and concepts, and to present information to non-technical audiences;

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Oversees collection and assessment of data for Institutional Research purposes.

  • Compiles, maintains, and analyzes institutional data in various formats
  • Produces reports and metrics based on department's needs; responds to time-critical ad-hoc requests
  • Loads, extracts, edits, and evaluates data for reporting and analytics
  • Maintains selected databases and document libraries, updating and ensuring data quality and accuracy
  • May participate in internal and external surveys as needed
  • May consult with others in designing methodology for research projects
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience up to $71,242.
