Announcement is hereby made for a full-time Specialist I position in the Office of Institutional Advancement in Selden.

Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

Job Description:

The Specialist I will report to the Assistant Director of Website Services in the Office of Institutional Advancement, and will primarily support the design, development, integration, ongoing maintenance and operation of the College’s Website and Content Management System.

 Specific responsibilities are as follows:

•             Support the design and development of the College’s publicly facing website and content management system.

•             Use of best practices and evidence-based design to create web pages and websites that deliver meaningful content in an organized way.

•             Develop ADA-compliant web pages and responsive design templates.

•             Collaborate with team members and committees to design content from conception to completion.

•             Create promotional materials for digital communication platforms (e.g. eblasts, websites, social media, and more).

•             Help administer the College’s website content management system, users and roles.

•             Help create and maintain website functional and instructional documentation, policies and style guides.

•             Use project management tools to keep track of projects, tasks, timelines, and web-related training for faculty and staff.

•             Use web governance applications to ensure quality of content, performance, visitor behavior and accessibility.

•             Support other College department digital communication, promotional and recruitment initiatives as needed.

•             Provide research and analysis for enhancement and optimization of College web properties.

•             Collaborate with, and develop effective working relationships with various College departments, College IT staff, SUNY cohorts and third-party vendors to provide solutions based on creative and functional requirements.

•             Provide periodic status reports to the Vice President and College administration with regard to assigned projects, tasks and other designated responsibilities.

                •             Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Institutional Advancement or the Assistant Director of Web Services.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master’s degree with at least 20 undergraduate or graduate credits in computer science or a related major, as well as four years of full-time professional experience, preferably in higher education. Alternately, a Bachelor’s degree with comparable credit requirements and two additional years of full-time technical work experience. Work experience must pertain to the development, design and support of publicly facing websites and associated web properties.

Applicants must also be familiar with the principals of the implementation and buildout of content management systems. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with the OmniUpdate OU Campus content management system. Strong design and visual communication background using Adobe Creative Suite, CSS, HTML, and JavaScript plug-ins is preferred. Familiarity with XML, XSL and database design principals is a plus.
