POSITION DETAILS

The Frankfort Center for Learning and Scholarly Technologies is responsible for the School of Education’s (SOE) technology environment, including video observation, web services, websites, classroom technology, computer labs, servers, software applications, multimedia services, and professional development. The Frankfort Center also supports the SOE’s live events, distance learning, and serves as a resource to the School of Education community.

Reporting to the Learning and Scholarly Technologies Manager, the Learning Technologies Specialist is responsible for supporting the School of Education students and faculty in the purposeful use of educational technology.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the education library and educational technology lab spaces; supervise College Assistants and Work Study staff in the library

  • Manage, update, and support School of Education platforms including Google Workspace, Digication, Blackboard, etc.; design and lead workshops and create learning documents for students and faculty as needed and by request.

  • Support technical and logistical aspects regarding the use of video for faculty and students in teaching observations and performance assessment by providing learning documents, workshops, consultation, technical support and collaboration with faculty to develop new tools and rubrics.

  • Respond to SOE specific student, faculty, and staff support requests via e-mail and phone, redirect to appropriate departments/resources as necessary. Support faculty, staff, and student use of technology in the School of Education via workshops, consultation, and maintenance of online courses. Serve as a resource as needed.

  • Assist the manager in maintaining and supporting classroom technology

  • Provide instructional design and video production/editing services to students and faculty

  • Stay up to date on trends in existing and emerging technologies within K-12, higher education and teacher preparation.

  • Additional duties as assigned by the manager

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.

Preferred qualifications

Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Adult Education, K-12 Education, Computer Science or similar.

Technical expertise:

Experience with Mac and PC hardware and software; experience with higher education technology support; experience with cloud platforms, including Learning Management Systems (e.g. Blackboard), e-portfolios (Digitation) and Google Workspace; experience with XR technologies and Unity/Unreal; knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP; experience with video editing tools; setup and production aspects of audio-video recording

Experience working with a diverse faculty and student body; experience in higher education, specifically the context of schools of education and teacher preparation; experience designing and leading professional development; excellent communication and presentation skills; experience in a customer service setting, and an ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to provide services and information with an equity mindset to a community with many and diverse membership.

  • Provides day-to-day support for users of instructional systems

  • May supervise a College help desk related to academic technology, supervising and training staff

  • Designs, develops, and delivers training and orientation sessions on the use of instructional technologies

  • May serve as an administrator and/or account coordinator for one or more systems

  • Assists in demonstrating the practical application of computers and communications technology for classes and workshops for faculty or students

  • May track problem reports, troubleshoot reported issues, and document resolutions

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
